RAPORT 2010-2009 RAPORT 2008

“Gipsy Eye” Association is a grass roots organization and the members came from several society groups like university, high school students but also less educated young Roma. Our motto is “See beyond prejudice”. It was founded in 2007 at the initiatives six Romani students as an informal group and in august 2008 become an official NGO. Our official website is www.gipsyeye.com. The association is based in Iasi, in the North-East of Romania. However this is the under development region of the state this town plays an important role in the Romania cultural (eg: is the third biggest university center after Bucharest and Cluj, is the capital of the the former Moldavian Principate) and economical life. Five percent the Romanian Roma live there and this population ratio is the Iasi majority society is more the 10%. The most of the Roma live in City of Iasi, city of Pascani, City of Targu Frumos and there are several villages where the Roma population is the same or more then the Romanian population (Grajduri, Ciurea, Miroslovesti, Lungani, Pietris, Crucea, Siretel, Cozmesti, etc).

We aim to  Fighting  prejudices against  Roma by  the following :

  • showing alternatives paths  for better life  for Romani Youth
  • enhancing  Roma identity in Romani Youth by giving knowledge of Romani culture and history
  • offering a chance for the Romani Youth to share their cultural heritage and  other values of the Romani Community  with others Roma youth from other Romani communities and non-Roma also
  • making a forum for the youth to express their opinions, thoughts  and expectations from the minority’s life
  • improving the non-Roma perception about Roma by good examples of Roma and not Roma cooperation on different topics like: antidiscrimination, culture and diversity.

Our association has reached directly more than 10000  people and work intensively  with more then 500 (at that moment  are going a project “Messenger against discrimination” with 100 young people.

At the beginning our initiative was a traditional dance group of six Romani students who would have liked to manifest their Romani identity and find the way to fight with discrimination. They participated in several cultural events like festival school competitions and national holiday events and recognize that they could address more and more people with their performance. Therefore improved the field of their activities so today this organization become a determinative Romani NGO is Iasi. We are very well known in Iasi county and we have strong partners in the educational public institutions.

The NGO belongs to several official and informal networks like Youth in Action( initiatives of European Commission), RomEurope France,  Romlink, University Association of Students from Romania.

During the last two year we trained 25 persons, who work for us effectively as a volunteers. They have been involved in different local, national and international conferences, workshops, trainings and seminars. They have organized debates, antidiscrimination campaigns and trainings on Roma rights, culture, history and language.

The NGO keeps Roma traditional dance classes to children and teenagers in cultural institutions in Iasi and Targu Frumos. The members of the association perform monthly shows where they underline the Roma issue.

The volunteers would improve their skills as their personalities. The door of the association  always opens for youth who would like to be our volunteers.

Luptam impotriva discriminarii!

Asociatia noastra promoveaza cultura rromilor si identitatea neamului nostru.
