Nouvelle volontaire, présente-toi !

Salut ! Je m’appelle Alice, j’ai vingt et un ans et je suis étudiante en lettres modernes. J’habite à Lille dans le nord de la France. J’ai commencé à travailler au sein de Gipsy Eye il y a une semaine.

Hi ! My name is Alice, I’m twenty one years old and I study literature in France. I live in Lille in the North of France. I’ve started to work at Gipsy Eye one week ago.

Comment t’es-tu retrouvée en Roumanie ?

Après ma troisième année de licence en tant qu’étudiante Erasmus, je voulais faire une pause avec mes études et m’investir dans quelque chose de différent, j’avais envie de voyager, de découvrir un nouveau pays. Je ne connaissais pas grand chose de la Roumanie (à part le groupe O zone et Dracula) mais le projet de Gipsy Eye me plaisait particulièrement.

After my third year license as an Erasmus student, I wanted to take time off and to invest myself in something really different. I was looking forward to travelling and discovering a new country. I didn’t know much about Romania (apart from the band O zone and Count Dracula), but I was really interested in the project.

Qu’est ce qui t’a motivée à t’engager dans ce service civique international ?

La mission tout d’abord : je travaille souvent avec des enfants en tant qu’animatrice et ça me plaît beaucoup . Le projet de l’association, qui est de lutter contre les discriminations envers les roms, m’intéressait particulièrement : je pourrai profiter de cette nouvelle expérience pour m’engager dans d’autres associations aux buts similaires une fois de retour en France.

First of all, it was the project : I’m used to working with children as an organizer and that’s something I really like. Gipsy Eye’s project, which is to fight against the prejudices towards the Roma community, seemed particularly interesting to me : when I’m back in France, I may be able to take advantage of this new experience to involve myself in other associations that follow similar goals.

Quelles sont tes premières impressions ?

Je suis encore en train de prendre mes marques, mais je sens que les gens sont chaleureux et prêts à m’aider. Comme je ne maîtrise pas le roumain, je ne saisis pas grand-chose de ce que me racontent les enfants à l’école et j’ai hâte de m’améliorer pour mieux les comprendre : mais on arrive à s’entendre quand même, on joue et on dessine, je les aide parfois pour leurs devoirs de français. Ils sont très attachants.

I still have to grow into my new job, but the people I meet (in the association and outside) are often welcoming and ready to help me. As I don’t speak romanian, I barely understand what the children are telling me, and I’m looking foward to improving my language skills so that I can understand them better : yet, I think we’re getting along, we’re playing and drawing, and I help them with their french lessons. They really are lovable.
