RO: Despre proiectul nostru
EN: About our project
Gipsy Eye is a Roma and non-Roma NGO working in the area of Pascani in eastern Romania. We are promoting Roma culture and empowering the youth from this community. Practically, the organization is working in a village school with children facing difficult situations, helping them to succeed in their studies and setting up non formal education activities. On the other hand, the organization has a troupe of traditional Roma dance taking part in many festivals in the whole country and even abroad. Gipsy Eye is hosting several European volunteers working in the school and sustaining the association activities.
One of our association’s main purpose is to promote intercultural diversity and dialogue. We strongly believe that art and culture are efficient means to fulfill these objectives.
With this in mind, we are willing to organize an international film festival in Sodomeni -the village we are based in- in the Moldovan region of Romania. Through this activity we want to bring an intercultural understanding on the local level between Roma and non-Roma populations. As well we want to set up a new cultural event in a place with a low offer of this kind. We are willing to give opportunities to the local youth, in order for them to experience volunteering in a cultural project.
FF, 2st edition
The festival is going to be called Fericirii Festival. The name is related to the street it has taked place in during the 1st edition, Strada Fericirii (The Street of Happiness). The village is situated really close to the city of Pașcani. The upper part of this street is known as being the location of many Roma people with low incomes. This year the event will happen in the little town of Bratesti, 5km from Sodomeni a little town at 5km from Pascani , in Moldova , Judetul Iasi.
The festival will take place on the 4th and 5th of August from 2 pm to 1 am.
Who are we going to involve?
Through this event, Gispy Eye wants to involve the local youth. We already gathered more than 40 volunteers from Pașcani’s high schools. They are being implied in the festival organization on a large scale. We believe this is an opportunity for them to gain skills in many fields, as well as experiencing volunteering. We think it can also bring them an intercultural experience. Indeed, the organization is also hosting European volunteers ( Only French this years ) who are undertaking an active and indispensable part to this activity together with several local members of the NGO.
